I don't have to dread calving any more....
The camera's been a hell of a help. I can sit in the kitchen watching and just head down the shed for the finish. It saves disturbing them five times a night. We're down the shed through the night when it's busy, but for the last few weeks of the season when just the last couple of dozen tail-enders are left it's a real God-sent. Even the ones that I know will calf OK by themselves, the zoom on the PTZ lets me check if the calf is sheeted. It's handy being able to check whether a calf is taking a suck too. I was pretty sceptical when Dougie told me he'd had cameras installed for the lambing. That was before I saw his system. I couldn't believe how sharp the pictures were, and how far in he could zoom! It’s absolutely brilliant...
It sounds silly, but it’s changed our lives. It’s the best thing that’s ever happened to us! It’s saved us from being broken into at 4 a.m., when the system went off and we crept out to find them breaking into our barn. We were almost on them when they scarpered. You’ve never seen anyone run so fast. They come with a lorry, you know. The neighbours were cleaned out.

With the help of the Yagi antennae we have a perfect picture from the barn to the house and no problematic wiring!!
