The transmitting range of the infra-red beams is about half a kilometre. This can be extended using our little solar-powered repeater. It contains a built-in backup battery, which is kept topped up by the solar-panel built into the top of the unit. Using one repeater will double the transmitting range to 1km, and each additional repeater installed will add up to a kilometre, allowing you to site infra-red beams several kilometres from the house.
